428,000+ patent applications. A clearer picture of the SEP landscape with Discover.

In this insight

Patent intelligence depends on how well the underlying records connect.

At ClaimsEvidence, our latest enrichment connects 428,000+ unique patent applications to standardized patent-family identifiers from primary patent office databases. These applications sit within a dataset of nearly 4 million ETSI declaration records.

For 5G alone, we linked 346,000+ applications to standardized family information in our dataset.

What we added

We connected declaration records to two complementary views of patent families:

  • DOCDB simple families, which group applications sharing the same priority set.
  • INPADOC extended families, which connect applications through overlapping priority relationships.

These identifiers add a standardized layer alongside the original ETSI declaration groupings. Researchers can examine portfolios through different family definitions and understand how those choices affect the results.

The enrichment goes beyond filling empty fields: it gives us a more consistent foundation for grouping related applications and comparing portfolios across companies.

The impact is visible

Across the original 5G top ten, six companies change position:

  • LG rises from fifth to third.
  • Qualcomm moves from seventh to sixth.
  • OPPO moves from third to seventh.

The declaration scope stays the same. What changes is how related patent applications are grouped. These movements reflect both the switch to standardized family definitions, enabled by the enrichment, and the recovery of missing family identifiers in the original datasets by the SDOs.

Better data. More informed decisions.

For licensing teams, litigators, and patent researchers, this provides a stronger starting point for portfolio comparisons, landscape analysis, and identifying related filings. This is the foundation we’re building for ClaimsEvidence Discover: a place to explore the patent landscape, investigate portfolios, and turn questions into insights grounded in source data.

We’re bringing richer patent intelligence closer to the people making licensing and litigation decisions—and this enrichment is one more step towards our commitment to quality.
